FIRST Steps

Firearms Instruction Responsibility and Safety Training

Cost: This course costs $75.

Time: The approximate length of this course is 4 hours depending on student requirements and experience.

Dress:  Comfortably for an indoor class. Bring what you need depending on the weather to fire at the outdoor range. For the firing portion, you should wear long pants, shoes that cover all, a baseball hat or other hat that will still allow you to wear hearing protection, and a long sleeve shirt. This is designed to protect you from any hot brass from you or your neighbor while firing.  You will also need eye protection. If you wear glasses, make sure they are rated to provide protection.

You bring: Your firearm and 50 rounds of ammunition for your weapon. If you have not yet made a decision on a firearm, we are able to offer a few models for you to try. If you have trouble with finding ammunition, we can also provide that at our current cost. Suggest you purchase ammunition that is full / total metal jacket (FMJ or TMJ) as it is much cheaper than rounds that are considered self defense such as hollow points. We will cover what should be used for your choice of ammunition for defensive purposes during class.

We provide: Targets, lunch (if the course time includes the lunch hour) and refreshments. We encourage you to have your own pistol for this course as it is firearm specific. If you use one of ours but later choose a firearm with a different action, additional refresher training may be needed to thoroughly familiarize you on that firearm.

Student will also receive the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure; Winchester / NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet; NRA First Steps Course Completion certificate.
